#12 – CINDY ORAVECZ “Victorian Reticule” Embellished Appliqued Quilt Block – ONE DAY CLASS SATURDAY
Plum-colored pleated ribbon is fanned and layered in scallops to form an ornate purse known as a reticule in the 1800s. Black picot edge lace forms the handle with Battenburg lace accents and dimensional beaded tassel. One single silk satin rose, leaves and a Czech glass button are the crowning embellishments on this replica of a purse hand appliqued to an album block. The reticule is appliqued to pale green toile fabric. Finished block is 9-inches square. This is one block in Cindy’s Victorian Album Block series.
Required $30 Kit INCLUDES: 10-inch square cotton toile fabric for background block, 84 pleats of 3-inch wide ribbon for purse, 8 inches of black Battenburg lace rings for inner handle, 25 inches of black picot edge lace for outer handle, 18 inches of 1-inch wide Artemis bias cut silk ribbon, 13 inches of green 1-inch wide French wire ribbon for leaves, 1 black French tassel, 1 Czech glass button, 3-inch length of double row black beads for tassel accent, milliner’s no. 9 needle and complete instructions.
SUPPLIES TO BRING: Small sharp scissors, chalk marker, pins with round heads, 6-inch ruler or small measure, a fresh wash out acid-free glue stick UHU or Ross recommended, optional just a dab of E6000 or Goop glue , wooden skewer or toothpick, polyester or cotton-covered poly thread one spool each of black and purple, scissors to cut paper and wire ribbon and a simple working board. (Supplies are also available for purchase from teacher in class).
To make a simple working board, cut an 11- or 12-inch square of foam board or corrugated cardboard. Glue, staple or tape white or off white thin batting or felt to the surface. Or a working board may be ordered in advance for $3 from the teacher at firstname.lastname@example.org
